SEK 5.2 million granted for area development in Boden Municipality
The County Administrative Board has allocated SEK 5.2 million to Boden Municipality in support of innovative and sustainable urban development projects. The funding will contribute to area development both in central Boden and in rural districts, as well as strengthen community life and the municipality’s relocation services.
The grant follows a previous government decision to support innovative and sustainable development initiatives in Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties. In Boden, the funding is earmarked for:
- Area development within the framework of the in-depth comprehensive plans for Torpgärdan, Södra Svartbyn, and Gruvberget.
- Activities in the Edefors area linked to urban development, based on proposals generated through the local Vision 2030 project.
- A dedicated resource to support community life, based on the report The Future of Associations, and to implement activities together with local associations.
- Strengthening the municipality’s relocation services and reception capacity.
In parallel with this project, additional work continues to develop other rural nodes and residential areas, though the newly granted funding is directed at specifically identified initiatives.
A deliberate vision
For several years, one of Boden Municipality’s top priorities has been to offer attractive, sustainable, and forward-looking living environments through careful planning. The municipal vision, The Good Life, underpins all decisions and plans concerning local development—bringing to life the place brand #Närhetsliv (“the life within close reach”).
Structured model for citizen-driven development
A structured working model has already laid the foundation for innovative, citizen-driven development in Boden. This approach is now being applied within the new project to ensure active participation from residents and stakeholders.
“In the midst of the green transition, we want individuals to have the space to shape their own journeys. We are investing in creating attractive, sustainable living environments where people thrive—both in the city and in the countryside,” explains Ann Sundberg, Head of Democracy, Communication & Security at Boden Municipality, and responsible for the Living & Housing development area within Bodenxt.
Bodenxt is Boden’s dedicated transformation organization, operating alongside the municipal administration. In addition to Living & Housing, its areas of focus include Business Development, Skills Supply, and Infrastructure above and below ground.
Added momentum
“Our model includes dialogue with potential new residents and current Bodensare at different stages of life, learning about their visions for the future of Boden, and allowing society to grow from those insights. Boden is about to take a development leap equivalent to two decades in just two to three years. This project provides us with additional strength to continue building the future of Närhetsliv across the municipality,” Sundberg adds.
The project runs until December 2024.
