Surewood invests in 41 new terraced homes in Boden
Housing developer Surewood Housing has been granted a building permit for 41 new terraced rental homes in Prästholmen, Boden. Construction is planned to begin as early as autumn 2026. The investment reflects the company’s ambition to contribute to Boden’s industrial development – and its confidence in growing demand for housing for couples and families.
Boden is undergoing major development, with investments in both industry and defence creating new jobs and increasing demand for housing. At the same time, the availability of vacant rental homes remains very limited.
A new housing project is now taking a concrete step forward. Surewood Housing has been granted a building permit for 41 terraced rental homes in Prästholmen and plans to begin construction this autumn.
– We need more housing to enable Boden to continue growing. It is therefore very encouraging to see Surewood ready to invest and move from plans to actual construction. These 41 new homes are important in themselves, but they also send a broader signal. We need more housing projects to get under way to meet the positive development taking place in Boden, says Béatrice Öman, Municipal Commissioner of Boden Municipality.
Contributing to Boden’s development
Surewood Housing has developed its own concept of smaller, cost-efficient terraced rental homes. In Prästholmen, the company sees an opportunity to provide housing suited to people moving to Boden for work and to build a new life.
– Surewood wants to contribute to the industrial development taking place in Boden, and we believe our terraced rental homes are very well suited to the local market. Smaller rental homes of this kind are an attractive option for couples and families looking to move to an appealing area close to the water, says Fredrik Anheim, CEO of Surewood Housing.
For Surewood, the development taking place in Boden is an important factor behind its decision to invest. The growing demand for skills in industry, combined with the expansion of the Swedish Armed Forces, is creating demand for more permanent housing.
Growing interest in housing investment
The project is planned to be co-financed by Norrlandsfonden Bostadsfinansiering, whose mission is to facilitate housing construction in locations where major industrial and societal investments are rapidly increasing housing demand, but where traditional financing can be difficult to secure.
– Norrlandsfonden Bostadsfinansiering is seeing growing interest in investing in Boden. One contributing factor is Stegra’s continued development, which, together with the expansion of the Swedish Armed Forces, is creating a long-term need for new housing, says Susanne Olofsson, CEO of Norrlandsfonden Bostadsfinansiering.
At the same time, the municipality has been working to ensure that detailed development plans and land are available for new housing. Prästholmen is one of the areas that has been prepared for residential development.
– The municipality’s role is to create the best possible conditions for new housing to be built. We are now seeing that work begin to translate into new homes. This is important both for people who want to move here and for companies and other employers that need to attract the skills and expertise they require, says Béatrice Öman.
