Svedjan wastewater treatment plant

We are improving the area around the treatment plant to upgrade the wastewater process and increase capacity. During the work, the surroundings may be affected for short periods, but the plant will remain in operation.

What is happening?

We are building a new process building in the area where staff and equipment are located today. The new building will make wastewater treatment more efficient and increase the capacity of the plant. At the same time, we are working to reduce odour from the facility. As part of the project, we are also taking the opportunity to improve the surrounding area by replacing underground utilities and upgrading infrastructure in the area.

Skanska Sverige AB has been contracted for the work, and the project is carried out as a collaborative design-build contract. Construction is expected to be completed in autumn 2027. All measures are included within the plant’s current permits and the existing detailed development plan. The treatment plant will continue to operate as normal throughout the construction period.

When does the work take place?

  • May 2025: Demolition and groundworks begin.
  • Autumn 2025: Preparatory work for Phase 2.
  • Spring 2026: Phase 2 construction begins.
  • Autumn 2027: The new building is expected to be completed and brought into operation.

How does this affect you?

  • Noise may occur during daytime hours, and there will be increased construction traffic in the area.
  • Private access to the river will be redirected – please follow the signs at Lavettvägen.
  • To ensure a safe working environment, some areas outside the construction site may be fenced off and used for materials and equipment storage.
