Railway Connection to Boden Industrial Park Secured

On Monday, the municipal executive committee held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the railway link connecting the main line to Boden Industrial Park.

The decision was to sign an agreement with Polar Structure, which will be responsible for constructing the railway to the area.

The next step in the process is the formation of a new company, Boden Järnväg AB, in which Boden Municipality will own 9 percent and Polar Structure the remaining 91 percent of the share capital. This ownership structure is based on the land value, estimated at SEK 25 million, and ensures both municipal influence and sustainable ownership.

“Minimal risk” 

A shareholders’ agreement will also be signed, under which Polar Structure will finance and carry out the construction of the railway. The construction period is estimated at two years, and during that time the company will not require any shareholder contributions from the municipality.

“This is a business arrangement that means minimal risk for taxpayers, and that feels very good,” says Mats Berg, Head of Business Relations at Boden Municipality.

Once completed, the railway will be operated by Train Alliance, a subsidiary of Polar Structure. The company will also be involved in the continued development of infrastructure at Boden Industrial Park and act as a partner in attracting more businesses to the area.

Expertise in Sustainable Infrastructure

Customers using the track will pay an annual fee to Boden Järnväg AB. Part of these funds will be used for operations and maintenance, while the rest will go towards reducing the municipality’s shareholder contributions.

“This decision marks the beginning of a new era for Boden. I am especially grateful to our civil servants and to Polar Structure for their tireless work and commitment,” says Claes Nordmark, Mayor of Boden Municipality.
