International School of Boden is growing
At the start of the fall semester, the International School of Boden has 41 students enrolled. International School of Boden is the only one in Norrbotten that teaches entirely in English according to an international curriculum for all ages.
The growing city of Boden and the new jobs in the green industry are attracting more and more families from other parts of the world. Some of them choose the regular Swedish school for their children. Others appreciate that their children are taught entirely in English and can continue their schooling without language or knowledge differences, no matter what grade they are in, where they come from or where they are going. In Boden, 41 students have now chosen this for the fall semester and more are on the way.
The students in Boden are divided between the primary school, which has 17 international students now, and Björknäsgymnasiet, which has 24 students divided into two grades.
“We see a clear increase in interest; someone calls every week now. We have students from almost every continent. They share a strong sense of community, and some have moved here specifically because this program is offered here”, says Nina Berggren, Diploma Programme Coordinator at Björknäsgymnasiet.
international curriculum
The International School of Boden follows the international curriculum which is entirely in English, equivalent worldwide, for all ages. The difference between a school with an international curriculum and a school with a Swedish curriculum is mainly the language. In international schools with a Swedish curriculum, a maximum of 50% of teaching may be in English. The International School of Boden also aims to provide students with more global knowledge than the Swedish curriculum. Boden has experienced teachers from all over the world who speak English and a range of other languages.
Linking up with Sweden
The International School of Boden is tailored to enable students from other countries to continue to develop on their own terms, but also to make new friends and connect with Swedish culture. They therefore share buildings with the traditional Swedish school and actively work to build bridges with, for example, a structured buddy program.
