The risk of a dam failure in the Lule River is small but real. Here you will find information on how you will be warned, where to go, and what to bring in case of evacuation.

What happens in the event of a dam failure?
The risk of a dam failure in the Lule River is very small but cannot be ruled out. Therefore, Boden Municipality, together with the County Administrative Board and Vattenfall, has prepared information on how you should act.
How will you know that a dam failure has occurred?
- In central Boden, the outdoor warning signal Important Public Announcement (VMA) will sound for two minutes.
- In the Harads area, information will be given by the rescue services and through repeated messages on the radio.
When you hear the signal, immediately turn on Swedish Radio P4. There you will receive confirmation if it concerns a dam failure, updates on the situation, and instructions on what to do.
What should you do in case of evacuation?
If a decision is made to evacuate, you must immediately travel east towards Kalix. There you will receive further information.
You may be accommodated in Kalix, Överkalix, Pajala, Övertorneå, or Haparanda. In some cases, Finland may also be an option. Housing, food, and supplies will be provided for the first few days.
If you have relatives or friends outside the risk area, you can of course evacuate there.
Transport during evacuation
- You are responsible for your own transport.
- Please assist neighbors and people who need support.
- If you cannot evacuate on your own, contact the rescue services for help.
What should you bring with you?
When evacuating, you should bring:
- sleeping mat and sleeping bag,
- toiletries,
- medicines,
- money, important documents, and identification.
Be prepared to be away for several weeks.
