What is an Important Message to the Public?
A warning system used during accidents, serious incidents and disruptions to vital public services. Information is issued via radio and television and, in some cases, outdoor warning sirens (“Hesa Fredrik”).
How you can be warned
Outdoor siren
The signal sounds for seven seconds, followed by fourteen seconds of silence. The pattern repeats for at least two minutes.
Radio and television
Messages are broadcast on Sveriges Radio P4 and on television.
Voice message to landlines
A recorded voice message can be sent to fixed telephones within the affected area.
Text message to mobiles registered at an address in the area
A text message can be sent to mobiles whose address is registered in the affected area. The responsible authority decides whether to use this service.
Text message to mobiles located in the area
A text message can be sent to mobiles currently in the area by positioning. The responsible authority decides whether to use this service.
What to do when the warning arrives
- Read and follow the instructions carefully.
- Go indoors.
- Close doors, windows and vents.
- Listen to Sveriges Radio P4 for more information.
- Sveriges Television shows when a warning is active on Text TV page 100 and refers to page 599 for the full message in text.
- For information, call 113 13. Do not call the emergency number 112 unless there is an immediate emergency.
