the smart greenhouse

In the smart greenhouse, surplus heat is used for local, year-round food production. Here, greenhouses, food waste and fish feed are connected in a sustainable circular system that reduces emissions and strengthens local self-sufficiency.

The smart greenhouse in Boden shows how resources that would otherwise go to waste can be reused. Surplus heat from data servers is captured and used to power a greenhouse with year-round cultivation. This makes it possible to produce more food locally, reduce transport and increase our level of self-sufficiency.

The project is linked to several other circular solutions. One example is the larva production facility in Heden, where larvae eat local food waste and become a climate-smart fish feed that can replace fishmeal. In this way, waste becomes a resource and we reduce both food waste and climate impact.

The goal is to create a circular system where the greenhouse, larva production and fish farming work together. This creates environmental and economic benefits and can also generate new jobs. The smart greenhouse is a clear example of how circular solutions can work in practice and contribute to a more sustainable Boden.
