Equality in everyday life
Equality means that women and men have the same power and possibility to shape their lives and influence society. In the municipality, an equality perspective must always be present when decisions are made and when resources are allocated. This means that consequences for different genders are made visible and analysed before decisions are taken.
European declaration on equality
Boden has signed the European declaration on equality. This means the municipality works to give all residents equal service and real influence. The declaration gives guidance in many areas, including education, care, housing, safety, culture, sports and leisure.
Diversity and human rights
All residents must be able to take part in community life on equal terms. The municipality follows the United Nations Convention on Human Rights and works for integration, public health, participation and accessibility.
There is zero tolerance for discrimination and degrading treatment in all municipal activities.
Grounds for discrimination
No one may be discriminated against because of:
- sex
- transgender identity or expression
- ethnic origin
- religion or other belief
- disability
- sexual orientation
- age
These grounds guide all municipal work, from how residents are met to services within school, care, leisure and culture.
Everyone is valued in Boden
The municipal plan states that all operations must be equality-integrated. This means that equality must guide every part of the organisation to ensure equal service for residents.
The Equality Award
Since 2020, Boden awards an Equality Award to a person or an organisation that has strengthened equality. From 2024, the award is presented together with the Närhetsliv Gala.
The award is 10,000 Swedish kronor, a diploma and flowers. The purpose is to highlight good examples that make Boden more equal.
