Eyvind Johnson prize

The Eyvind Johnson Prize in Literature is awarded by Boden Municipality to honor distinguished Swedish authors. Every year, SEK 70,000 is granted to a selected laureate.

ABOUT THE PRIZE

The purpose of the Eyvind Johnson Prize in Literature is to recognize an authorship that the jury considers among the most artistically significant in Swedish literature from the past two years.

CRITERIA AND JURY WORK

The prize amounts to SEK 70,000 and is awarded annually. It cannot be applied for, but is open to all authors active in Sweden. The prize cannot be shared between recipients.
When selecting the laureate, gender equality and diversity must always be considered.

The recipient is chosen by a jury of three to five members, appointed by the Culture, Leisure and Youth Committee of Boden Municipality under the following rules:

  • The Eyvind Johnson Society and its Boden chapter nominate one member
  • Two literary critics or individuals with broad knowledge of Swedish literature
  • Geographic diversity is encouraged
  • No jury member may serve for more than three award cycles
  • The jury is chaired by an official of Boden Municipality, appointed by the Head of the Cultural Administration. The chair has no voting rights.
  • Jury members receive no remuneration.
