Guidelines for the School of Arts

2. From which school year can you apply?

Instruments/Music

Admission is primarily offered to students in Years 4–9. If places are available, students may start as early as Year 2 for certain instruments, such as violin, cello, flute, recorder, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and French horn.

Drama

You can apply from Year 3. Admission takes place from Year 4 when places are available.

Dance

You can apply from Year 3. Admission takes place from Year 4 when places are available.

Singing

You can apply from Year 3. Admission takes place from Year 4 when places are available.

3. Can I continue when I start upper secondary school?

In most cases, tuition is offered until the end of Year 9.

If you are a member of one of our orchestras or ensembles, you can continue to participate after starting upper secondary school. In that case, you may also continue receiving tuition on your instrument.

You may also apply to our dance and drama groups while attending upper secondary school.

• For instruments, you can select both a first and a second choice.
• You can also apply for dance, drama, singing and choir.

Protected personal data

If you or your child have protected personal data, please do not apply through StudyAlong. Instead, contact the School of Arts on +46 70 204 84 98, and we will assist you.

5. Waiting list

• Once your application has been submitted, you will be placed on a waiting list for your selected activities.
• Admission is based on waiting time and the date the application was registered.
• Most admissions take place at the start of the spring term. Admission may also occur during the school year if a place becomes available.

6. After you have been admitted

• All tuition is free of charge.
• You keep your place until you choose to cancel it. A parent or guardian must contact the teacher to withdraw from the programme.
• If you are ill or unable to attend for any other reason, it is important that a parent or guardian informs the teacher.
• If you leave a regular school lesson to attend School of Arts tuition, you are responsible for finding out what you missed in class.

7. Instrument rental

Rental and cost

• Instruments can be rented if they are available.
• The rental fee is SEK 203 per term.
• The fee is invoiced once per term: in May for the spring term and in November for the autumn term.
• Instrument rental is charged after three completed lessons.
• Drums are not available for rental.
• Music books must be purchased by the student.

Responsibility for the instrument

• The borrower is responsible for taking good care of the instrument.
• If a borrowed instrument is lost or damaged beyond repair, it must be reported immediately. The borrower may then be required to pay the full replacement value of the instrument.
• Damage is charged at the cost of repair. Repairs must be carried out by the School of Arts or as otherwise agreed.

Returning the instrument

• When the student leaves the School of Arts, the instrument and all accessories must be returned immediately.
• The instrument must be returned in person to the School of Arts in Boden.

8. Photography and filming

Concerts, performances and other public appearances are a natural part of the School of Arts’ activities. On such occasions, we sometimes take photographs and record videos to document our work.

Photos and videos may be published on the School of Arts website and social media channels. Publication is carried out on the legal basis of public interest.

If you do not want your child to appear in photos or videos published by the School of Arts, please contact us at kulturskolan@boden.se. State which student the request concerns and that the student should not appear in photographs or videos.
