Recycling centers – ÅVC

At Boden’s recycling centers, households can leave most types of waste. Businesses can leave waste for a fee.

Updated:

Please note that all forms, digital applications (e-services) and some linked websites are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

How the recycling center works

Private households can leave items for reuse. You may also leave waste that cannot be placed in household bins. The fee is already included in the waste tax if the load fits in a car or small trailer. Larger loads by truck must be taken to Brännkläppen Waste Facility.

Businesses pay per visit according to the current fee schedule. On site, all waste must be sorted into the correct container. The recycling center acts as an interim storage facility before the material is sent on for reuse, material recycling, energy recovery, destruction, or landfill.

Waste hierarchy

All handling follows the EU waste hierarchy:

  1. Reuse of functioning items
  2. Material recycling
  3. Energy recovery through incineration
  4. Landfill for waste that cannot be recycled

Waste not accepted

  • Food waste and residual waste – must be disposed of in the property’s own bins
  • Car tires – return to a tire dealer (up to eight free of charge, extra cost if on rims)
  • Fire extinguishers – leave with a certified company
  • Gas cylinders and CO₂ cartridges – return to the retailer
  • Fireworks, explosives, and ammunition – hand in to the Police
  • Medicines and syringes – leave at a pharmacy
  • End-of-life vehicles – return to a car dealer or dismantling facility
  • Bale plastic – return to the producer or Brännkläppen Waste Facility

Businesses delivering waste

Businesses that deliver waste to a recycling centre must pay a fee. This applies to waste from a business that is brought to the recycling centres in Boden, Gunnarsbyn or Harads. The fee applies whether you arrive by car, with a trailer or in a light truck.

Registration of business visits

In spring 2026, automatic registration of business visits will be introduced at Brännkläppen Recycling Centre in Boden. A sensor will read the vehicle’s registration number when you enter the site. The company will then receive one combined invoice per month.

If you deliver waste that should not be charged, you must contact the staff.

Contact staff

At Harads and Gunnarsbyn Recycling Centres, you must always contact staff before unloading your waste.

At Brännkläppen, the same procedure applies until the automatic registration system has been introduced.

Private individuals using a company vehicle

If you are a private individual using a company-registered vehicle, you must contact staff before unloading. Otherwise, the visit will be registered as a business visit and charged accordingly.
