What is a kitchen exhaust duct?

A kitchen exhaust duct is the ventilation duct that carries cooking fumes and grease from the kitchen up to the roof. A fan is often installed in the duct.

Why must the duct be cleaned?

  • To reduce the risk of fire caused by grease deposits inside and outside the duct.
  • To keep the ventilation system working properly. Grease can clog filters and fans, which may cause poor performance, odors, and smoke.

Cleaning requirements

According to Swedish fire safety legislation and the local regulations of Boden Municipality, the following applies:

Kitchen exhaust ducts in restaurants or other commercial kitchens

  • Three times per year: For kitchens where cooking takes place on a larger scale than household needs.
  • Once per year: For kitchens where food is only reheated or similar activities are carried out.
