Start a hygiene business
Are you planning to start a business offering tattooing, piercing, foot care, or any other treatment involving cutting or piercing procedures? Then you must register your business with the municipality before you begin.

Step-by-step guide

1. Start early
If you plan to start a business involving cutting or piercing procedures, you must register it with the municipality. Submit your registration at least six weeks before you want to start.
Examples of businesses that must be registered:
- Tattoo studios
- Piercing services
- Foot care services
- Acupuncture services
- Shaving with a straight razor
- Ear or body piercing with needles or similar equipment
2. Costs
You pay a processing fee. If your business is permanent, the municipality also charges an annual inspection fee.
3. Processing time
Processing begins when your registration is complete. Unless we inform you otherwise, you may start your business six weeks after submitting the registration.
4. Important to know
As the business owner, you must have the knowledge required to protect customers and the environment from risks such as the spread of infections. You are responsible for ensuring that all regulations are followed.
The premises must be suitable for the business. You must have routines in place for hygiene, cleaning of equipment, general cleaning, waste management, and other essential areas.
If you are unsure about the layout of the premises, you can hire a consultant. Keep in mind that renovations or modifications may require a building permit or a building notification.

Unless we inform you otherwise, you may start your business six weeks after submitting the registration. The municipality will then carry out regular inspections.
