Start a swimming or spa facility

If you plan to open a swimming facility that will be used by the public or by many people, you must register it with the municipality.

Updated:

Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

1. Start early

You must always register swimming facilities that are used by the public or by many people. Submit the registration at least six weeks before the facility opens.

This applies to:

  • Swimming pools
  • Hot tubs and spa pools
  • Baths with tubs
  • Water slides
  • Pools
  • Portable pools

2. Costs

You pay a processing fee. The municipality also charges an annual inspection fee for facilities that operate year-round.

3. Processing time

Processing begins when your registration is complete. Unless we inform you otherwise, you may open your facility six weeks after submitting the registration.

4. Important to know

As the operator of a hygiene-related facility, you must have the knowledge needed to protect both people and the environment. You are responsible for ensuring that all regulations are followed.

The premises must be suitable for the facility, and you need routines for water quality, hygiene, cleaning, waste management, and other important areas.

If you are unsure about the design of the premises, you can contact a consultant. Keep in mind that renovations or construction work may require a building permit or a building notification.
