Step-by-step guide
Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.
1. Start early
All food businesses must be registered before they begin operations. Submit your registration at least two weeks before you want to start.
2. costs
You pay a fee for the processing of the registration.
The municipality also charges a fee for inspections of your business. How often inspections are carried out depends on the size and type of the business. You pay the fee after the inspection.
3. Processing time
Once the application is complete, we begin processing it. We finish within two weeks.
4. Important to know
You are responsible for ensuring that the business complies with all regulations. The premises must be suitable for the type of business you run.
You must also have a self-inspection program. This means having routines for hygiene, cleaning, temperature checks, and other measures needed to produce safe food.
If you are unsure about the design of the premises, you can hire a consultant.
Keep in mind that a building permit or building notification may be required for renovations or rebuilding.

6. What happens next
Two weeks after you have submitted your registration, you may start your business unless we inform you otherwise. After you begin operations, our food inspectors will carry out a check to ensure that your business follows the rules.
Regular inspections will then be carried out.
7. Other things to consider
7.1 Do not release harmful substances into wastewater!
You must not release substances into the sewage system that may damage pipes or disturb treatment plants. You may need a grease separator, an oil separator, or to clean the wastewater yourself.
