Welcome as a New Employee
A warm welcome to your work in health and social care. Here you will meet people in different life situations and make a difference every day. The work requires responsibility, compassion and commitment. On this page you will find an overview of the most important parts of your role.
On the subpages you will find more detailed information about each area. There you can read further and gain deeper knowledge about, for example, confidentiality, hygiene routines, documentation, interaction and ergonomics.
Your Responsibilities at Work
As a member of care staff, you are responsible for following laws, regulations and routines. Confidentiality and professional secrecy are essential – you may never share information you learn about a person. This applies verbally, in writing and digitally. You may not accept gifts or benefits, as this can be seen as bribery and undermine trust in care services.
Safety and Quality in Care
To ensure safe and reliable care, you must follow basic hygiene routines. Wash and disinfect your hands, use protective equipment and assistive devices when needed. All care must be documented clearly and correctly. Records and care plans must be factual and used to plan and follow up care. If something goes wrong or risks going wrong, you must report an incident. In cases of serious misconduct or injury, the rules of Lex Sarah and Lex Maria apply.
Interaction and Care
Your interaction is crucial for creating safety and trust. Always show respect, kindness and attentiveness. Working in care also means supporting people in their daily lives. Oral health is part of overall well-being and is included in daily care. Transfers must be carried out with the correct work techniques and assistive devices to protect both you and the person you are helping.
