Political governance and decision-making
The municipality is governed by elected representatives who decide on goals, operations, and quality of services.
Democracy, elections and transparency
Citizens participate through voting, oversight, and appeal rights.
General Elections
Municipal council members are elected every four years, alongside national and regional elections. Some serve part-time; others receive compensation for full-time roles.
Voting Rights
You have the right to vote if you:
- Are at least 18 years old by election day.
- Are a Swedish citizen and registered in the municipality.
- Are a citizen of the EU, Norway or Iceland and registered in Sweden for at least 30 days.
- Are a non‑EU citizen registered in Sweden for at least three years.
Right to Appeal
You may appeal a decision affecting you personally (administrative complaint) within three weeks of receiving the decision. You may also request a legality review at the administrative court within three weeks of decision documentation approval.

The municipality is responsible for essential services in your daily life.

Municipal self-government
The municipality has the right to make independent decisions within national law and levy taxes to fund its services.
