Why is information security important?
Boden Municipality handles large amounts of information in its interactions with residents, businesses, organizations, and within its own operations. To carry out our responsibilities safely and reliably, information must be accurate, accessible when needed, protected when it is sensitive, and traceable if something goes wrong.
Information security is therefore not only about technology but also about establishing order and clear procedures for all information—whether digital or physical.
Goals of our work
A well-structured approach to information security offers many benefits. Costly incidents can be avoided with the right protection, saving both money and resources. Residents’ trust in the municipality grows when information is handled securely, and we can demonstrate compliance with laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Our work also ensures that management can monitor and control security in a clear way. Using common methods and terminology makes it easier to collaborate with other municipalities and authorities. Finally, increased awareness among employees helps reduce risks even further.
Information in all forms
Information security applies to all types of information—whether text, audio, images, video, or verbal communication. It may be stored digitally, on paper, or only exist in people’s memory—the same requirements for protection apply in all situations.
