Key recruitment secured for Boden’s ongoing societal transition
The Municipality of Boden has appointed a new Head of Development and Deputy Chief Executive. Thomas Sundqvist will assume the role on August 18, tasked with coordinating the societal transition and leading the municipality’s strategic development efforts.
Thomas Sundqvist has previously worked closely with the municipality on the establishment process around Stegra and brings extensive experience from both the business sector and public administration.

As Head of Development, Thomas Sundqvist will be responsible for coordinating cross-sectoral development efforts in close dialogue with the Chief Executive, department heads, and the municipality’s companies. The role also includes acting as a strategic link between the municipality and external stakeholders – from industry and academia to public authorities and civil society.

New Structure for Strategic Development
At the same time, the former business development function is being reshaped into a more unified leadership model. The role of Business Director will be replaced by a collaborative leadership group, consisting of Chief Executive Magnus Åkerlund, CEO of Boden Business Park Thomas Fägerman, and the newly appointed Head of Development.
Together, the group shares responsibility for driving the municipality’s strategic business development forward and ensuring long-term vision and alignment in Boden’s ongoing societal transition.
The former Business Director, Mats Berg, will conclude his role on June 30, but will remain CEO of Boden’s municipal group company until the end of the year.
