SEK 1.5 million in support from Boverket for housing development in Boden
The Municipality of Boden has been granted funding from Boverket (the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning) for zoning plans that enable the development of single-family homes and the conversion of commercial spaces into residential housing. A total of just over SEK 1.5 million has been allocated for zoning plans in the Tjärnbacken and Ymer areas.
"It’s encouraging that Boverket is supporting housing development in municipalities, and that our two projects in Boden have been approved. For us, this funding supports zoning work we've dedicated significant time to and which has now gained legal force. The financial support also frees up resources to continue our planning work in additional areas," says Ida Ahlbäck, planning architect at the Municipality of Boden.
The grants are specifically allocated as follows: SEK 308,700 for Ymer and SEK 1,250,000 for Tjärnbacken.
The Ymer block is located near Bodån and Kungsbron in central Boden. The application covers zoning for Ymer 1, 2, and 3, and allows for the conversion of 1,029 square meters of commercial space into residential space.
Tjärnbacken, situated in the Sveafältet area next to Bodån, includes municipal land totaling 5,950 square meters. The application enables the development of approximately 50 single-family homes.
At Tjärnbacken, Cederfors and Lindbäcks are planning a new residential area with a mix of housing types, totaling 180 dwellings. According to a recent press release from the collaborating companies, the goal is to start construction of Phase 1 in spring 2026. The first phase will include two-story apartment buildings with private gardens or terraces, as well as terraced houses and semi-detached homes.
"It’s a positive signal that Boverket is supporting rapidly growing municipalities, and we’re pleased to see more housing projects underway," says Ellinor Isaksson Larsson, Head of Planning and Development at the Municipality of Boden.
