Stop the spread of Himalayan balsam!

Himalayan balsam is a tall invasive plant that spreads rapidly over long distances and poses a threat to our biodiversity. But together, we can stop it!

Himalayan balsam is listed on the EU’s list of invasive alien species, which means it is prohibited to import, sell, cultivate, transport, use, exchange, or release it into nature.

Prevent the Spread of Himalayan Balsam

  • Cut down the plant or pull it up before it flowers and its seed pods mature.
  • Has it not flowered yet? Then the stems can be left to dry on site.
  • Has it already flowered? Gather all plant material and place it in double plastic bags – dispose of it in the designated container at Brännkläppen recycling centre.

Watch the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s instructional video on how to remove Himalayan balsam. You can also read more about control and management of Himalayan balsam on their website.

Landowners are responsible for control measures, but we can all help. See a plant on municipal land? Pull it up!

Together, we protect our nature!
