What the Fire Ban Means

It is prohibited

To make fires or grill outdoors in forests and open land, or in areas close to forests where fire could easily spread. You may not use combustible materials such as firewood, charcoal, briquettes, grass, brush, or branches to make fires or grill in forests and open land.

It is allowed

• To grill on your own property – but only in a safe grill intended for that purpose. This only applies if you live in areas where houses and buildings are close together or only separated by a road, street, or parkland.
• To grill at designated fixed grill sites. A fixed grill site is a place built for grilling, bordered by concrete or stone, and surrounded by a wide surface of gravel or other fireproof material. These are usually called “prepared grill sites.”
• To use camping stoves, storm kitchens, and similar devices if placed on fireproof surfaces such as stone, gravel, or sand.

Exceptions to the Ban

The ban does not apply to controlled nature conservation burns intended to promote and maintain high natural values.

How Long Does the Ban Last?

The fire ban is in effect until further notice. The County Administrative Board will announce when the ban has been lifted.

You Are Responsible

You are responsible if you start a fire. You can be fined if you violate the fire ban.
