Breaking ground – construction of Unbyn’s new school begins

On 17 September 2025, the first sod was turned for Unbyn’s new preschool and primary school.

Unbyn’s new combined preschool and school is being built by Skanska and will be completed in just over a year, ready for occupancy at the beginning of 2027.

“It’s absolutely incredible – yet another project we get to carry out, and moreover in the countryside, which is not at all common,” says Charlotte Olofsson, premises coordinator at the Department of Labour Market and Education.

At Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony, organised by Skanska, children from Mumindalen preschool were present – the very ones who will soon attend the new school. In addition to taking part in the symbolic spade work, the children also cast their handprints in concrete. Some parents were also present.

“Initially we were a bit worried whether a new school and preschool would actually be built, fearing that the old one would just be demolished and nothing new constructed. But now it seems to be happening, with the groundbreaking and everything. It feels fantastic – now we know that the future will carry on here in Unbyn,” says Henrika Kostet, parent from Svedjan just outside Unbyn.
