Boden has one of Sweden’s best tap waters

“Boden has water with character – good structure, well balanced, and with a lively aftertaste,” said the jury when Boden’s water qualified for the final of this prestigious competition.

“It feels fantastic that our water is getting this recognition,” says Carl Bernin Ortwed, Head of Water and Sewage at Boden Municipality. “It’s proof of the long-term and careful work that our employees do every day to ensure fresh and high-quality drinking water for all residents of Boden.”

The competition, arranged for the sixth time this year, included ten regional rounds across Sweden, with a total of 80 participating municipalities. Boden was one of 20 finalists competing in Stockholm. An expert jury carried out blind taste tests to evaluate flavour, aroma, and quality — looking for qualities such as sparkle, crispness, and structure to find Sweden’s finest tap water.

Sweden’s most important drink

Sweden’s tap water is world-class. The Tap Water Competition, organised by Svenskt Vatten, highlights the high quality of municipal drinking water and draws attention to the work behind every glass — from the water source to the tap.

The 2025 competition carried the theme “Kranmärkt”, reminding everyone that the best water is the one that comes straight from the tap.
Besides naming Sweden’s best tap water, the competition also aims to raise awareness about sustainability and encourage more people to choose tap water instead of bottled water.
