Feasibility Study Launched for Recreational Area in Laxede

The Edeforsbygden Economic Association has launched a feasibility study to lay the foundation for future development in the Laxede area. The study aims to produce documentation for rewetting land and creating conditions for developing sport fishing in running waters in the area.

The project Laxede Development began with a feasibility study in October 2025, with the planned study period running until March 2026. During the study, the focus is on environmental restoration measures for water and land, as well as laying the groundwork for fish conservation efforts.

The feasibility study will examine different options for supplying water to the old river channel, as well as to the reflecting pond at Laxholmen.

A key requirement for developing the area is close cooperation with Vattenfall, which is also a co-financier and supportive of the initiative.

“Vattenfall contributes expert knowledge on fish farming, roe, and stocking fish, including kaltis trout from the fish farm in Heden, subject to availability,” says Richard Holmgren, Vattenfall.

Boden Municipality is participating as a partner and is providing co-funding of SEK 400,000 out of a total feasibility study budget of approximately SEK 1.4 million. The project aligns well with ongoing LONA projects focused on wetland restoration within Edeforsbygden. The initiative also strengthens the already strong tourism cluster in Edeforsbygden and the tourism sector overall by providing yet another reason to visit the municipality, the area, and Swedish Lapland.

The feasibility study is funded by Region Norrbotten, Vattenfall, Boden Municipality, and EDEK.

“We see great potential in this area, and we can finally take a comprehensive approach to future development in Laxede together with Vattenfall. It is a fantastic place with an exciting history, and we hope it will lead to more jobs as well as increased opportunities for recreation and tourism in the future,” says Sven-Eric Ersson, project manager, EDEK.
