Long-awaited recreation bridge inaugurated
The new recreation bridge connecting Södra Svartbyn with Gruvberget has now been inaugurated and is open to all residents of Boden.
The bridge, long anticipated by both locals and community groups, was warmly welcomed by the many bodensare who gathered for the inauguration on 19 November. Lena Goldkuhl (S), Chair of the Community Building Committee, cut the ribbon, after which visitors walked across the bridge – followed by coffee and pastries.
Among the first to try the bridge were Lisbeth and Ingemar Selberg, who live nearby and often spend time in the area.
– We’ve really been looking forward to this bridge. It will be wonderful to take walks with the dog again, just like we used to, and continue our outings up on the mountain, says Ingemar.
– The grandchildren have been waiting too. We usually go to what they call the Troll Bridge with snacks, but without this crossing it’s been hard to get there. Now it will be easy again, says Lisbeth.
Safe passage in winter
The new bridge is built to function year-round and provide a safe connection between the areas, whether you walk, jog, ski or ride a snowmobile. Robert Andersson from Boden’s Snowmobile Association attended the inauguration and sees major benefits with the new solution.
– It feels really good that it’s finally in place. There have been many temporary solutions lately, but now we get a safe and smooth crossing where everyone can share the space, he says.
During the winter, the Snowmobile Association will groom and maintain the bridge to ensure it remains safe and accessible for everyone who uses it.
– We will be informing our members about the importance of showing consideration. If pedestrians are on the bridge, we need to slow down and remember that it is meant for everyone. If everyone takes responsibility, this will be a great solution for the whole municipality, says Robert Andersson.
He also highlights that the association’s involvement is part of a broader community effort:
– It’s positive that the municipality invests in solutions like this. We do a lot of volunteer work maintaining snowmobile trails that everyone can use, and this ties the outdoor recreation network together in a very good way.
