The Nordpoolen Water Park Celebrates 30 Years
Throughout December, Nordpoolen is splashing out anniversary offers. Today after 5 pm, on the birthday itself, all children under twelve who come accompanied by a guardian are treated to free admission!
On December 16, 30 years ago, the doors opened to welcome the very first visitors to the Nordpoolen adventure water park. With that, the “turbo slide” and “always swimming weather” became a reality here in Boden.
“I remember the old swimming hall, and I recall what a huge boost it was when the new one opened, with the adventure pool and water slides. Back then it was a really big deal, and even today you won’t find facilities like this everywhere,” says Annica Ölén.
She is one of many people from Boden who grew up with Nordpoolen. She has competed in the fast tube slide, spent time in the relaxation area as a teenager, and as an elite athlete was able to train gently through swimming during injury periods. Now it’s the next generation’s turn to learn how to swim here.
“I’ve done baby swimming classes here with both of my children, and just recently the oldest—who is five—completed swimming school,” Annica says.
SWIMMING INSTRUCTION, ICE SAFETY AND ACCESSIBILITY
Nordpoolen offers not only lovely hot tubs, an adventure pool, and lanes for exercise swimming. Every year, all primary school pupils receive essential swimming instruction and get comfortable in the water.
“All school pupils from grades one through nine in the entire municipality come here at least four times a year. Upper secondary schools and schools from other municipalities come as well,” says Jörgen Bergström, unit manager at Nordpoolen.
Already in grade three, pupils learn lifesaving skills. All ninth graders receive instruction in ice safety and, under controlled conditions, get the chance to experience what it’s like to climb out of an ice hole.
Throughout December, Nordpoolen is splashing out anniversary offers. Today, on the birthday itself, all children under twelve accompanied by a guardian are invited to swim for free! In addition to school swimming lessons, Nordpoolen also runs its own swimming classes for younger children. The Boden Swimming Club also has its home at Nordpoolen. Just this past weekend, the pool was filled with swimming joy during the club’s Lucia camp and Lucia swim event, with 43 registered youths from Boden, Arvidsjaur, and Älvsbyn.
“Another very large part of our operation is that we provide good accessibility, and many individuals and groups from elderly care and social services come here regularly,” says Jörgen.
A big congratulations to Nordpoolen on its 30th anniversary!
Keep an eye on their (digital) channels for more offers throughout December.
