Boden and Luleå to explore closer cooperation
The municipalities of Boden and Luleå intend to explore closer cooperation within the guardianship authority. The municipalities will now develop a proposal on how a joint Chief Guardian Committee could be structured.
The Chief Guardian Committee is responsible for supervising legal guardians, administrators and custodians – a role that ultimately concerns legal certainty and the protection of individuals who are unable to safeguard their own interests.
The current review focuses on how the political governance could be organised jointly. The administrative organisations in each municipality will not be affected and will continue their existing cooperation within the framework of cooperation agreements.
– For Boden, this means strengthening the organisation in the long term. Through a joint committee with Luleå, we gain a more robust structure, a broader pool of expertise and better conditions to ensure high quality for our residents, says Beatrice Öman, Chair of the Municipal Executive Board of Boden.
Aimed at protecting citizens
The review will also include an implementation plan, enabling a potential joint committee to be introduced at the start of the next electoral term. The proposal will be reported to the municipal executive boards of both municipalities, which will then decide whether to prepare a complete decision-making proposal for their respective municipal councils.
– A joint committee with the Municipality of Boden allows us to build long-term stability, retain and secure expertise over time, and thereby ensure a safe and reliable guardianship authority that protects and supports our citizens, says Carina Sammeli, Chair of the Municipal Executive Board of Luleå.
The goal is to create a stable, efficient and legally secure guardianship authority for residents in both municipalities.
