"Närsorterat" – easier sorting close to home

The municippality of Boden is introducing "Närsorterat", a new way to sort packaging close to home.

En grön och vit logotyp med orden narsorterat.

BACKGROUND

Today, more than half of all packaging ends up in residual waste and is incinerated, even though it could be recycled. To make sorting easier and increase recycling, Närsorterat will be introduced during 2027. This change is based on the EU Waste Directive and new Swedish legislation. The law makes municipalities responsible for collecting household packaging waste. This applies to all municipalities in Sweden.

WHAT IS NÄRSORTERAT?

Närsorterat means that if you live in a detached house, terraced house or holiday home, you will in the future sort more packaging directly at home.

The rollout will take place gradually and be adapted to local conditions in Boden.

WHAT BINS WILL YOU RECEIVE?

Households will receive a dual-compartment bin of 370 litres. This is for food waste and plastic packaging.

You will continue to use your existing bins:

  • Green bin: paper packaging
  • Brown bin: residual waste

The new dual-compartment bin will be used alongside the existing bins.

Recycling stations will remain in place for the time being. At these stations, you can dispose of metal and glass packaging, as well as larger packaging items.

WHEN WILL IT BE INTRODUCED?

Distribution of the new dual-compartment bin will take place gradually during 2027.

The exact timing for your household will be announced later via letter and on the municipality’s website.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

At this stage, you do not need to take any action. You may start thinking about where to place the bins. Do not build a new storage area for the bins, as additional bins may be introduced in the future.

Please keep an eye out for more information from the municipality. Leading up to 2027, we will continue to inform, plan and prepare for Närsorterat across the municipality.
