New access system makes Björknäsgymnasiet safer

At the start of the new term, Björknäsgymnasiet is introducing an access card system for all students. The cards are intended to create a safer environment for both students and staff, while making it easier for staff to identify unauthorised visitors. By keeping the entrances locked, the school will have better control over who enters and remains on the premises.

The new system was planned and preparations began during the 2025/2026 academic year. It is part of Björknäsgymnasiet’s ongoing work to improve safety and security.

“However, given the recent attack at another school in Sweden and the concern that such an event can cause among both students and staff, it feels very reassuring that we are able to introduce the system now,” says Ewa Olausson, Principal.

In practical terms, introducing the new system requires extensive administrative preparation. All students will receive a personal card displaying their photograph and name. The card is linked to a user profile and adapted to the access needs of students on different programmes. During the school’s regular opening hours, students will use their personal card and PIN to enter through one of three entrances.

Each time a card is used at an entrance, an access log is created showing which card was used and the date and time of entry.

The user profile remains active for as long as the student has an active access card, which means for the duration of their studies at the school. When the student finishes their studies, the user profile and the information registered in it are deleted.
