4 September, 11:00: Svedjebergsleden reopens to cars

Svedjebergsleden will reopen to cars on Friday afternoon. The maximum permitted gross vehicle weight is 3.5 tonnes and must not be exceeded. Please follow all signs and instructions at the site.

1 September, 16:00: Svedjebergsleden remains closed

Svedjebergsleden will remain closed throughout week 36. Geotechnical assessments show that the stability of the road needs to be monitored further following the high water flows. A new decision on whether the road can be reopened to cars will be made on Monday in week 37.

Although water levels have fallen, the ground may still be saturated and unstable. The risk of landslides may also increase as the water recedes. The road will therefore remain closed while conditions continue to be monitored.

We are aware that the closure is affecting residents and road users. If possible, please choose an alternative route to help reduce traffic on Svartbyleden.

31 August, 13:00: Warning level lowered

The situation following the high water flows continues to improve. SMHI’s orange warning for flooding remains in effect on Monday and will be lowered to a yellow warning on Tuesday. From Wednesday, no warnings will remain in effect.

Although water levels have fallen, ground, roads and paths may still be affected by the flooding. Continue to take extra care, particularly in areas that were previously flooded.

30 August, 11:00: Water levels continue to fall

Water levels are falling and, according to in-depth forecasts from SMHI, are expected to continue falling. However, due to the rain over the weekend, the decline is expected to be slower.

Boden Municipality is closely monitoring the situation and remains on standby throughout the weekend.

Water levels are still significantly higher than normal. This may pose a risk of accidents or danger to life when entering areas that are or have previously been flooded.

The County Administrative Board’s temporary ban on entering the water areas of Ljusån, Buddbyträsket, Bodträsket, Bodån and Svartbyträsket, as well as water areas originating from these locations, remains in effect until 31 August.

27 August, 13:00: Be careful on previously flooded pedestrian and cycle paths

Water levels have fallen, and many pedestrian and cycle paths that were previously flooded are dry again. Please continue to exercise caution, as the ground underneath and alongside the paths may have been damaged by the high water flows.

Avoid sections that have recently been flooded, especially near lakes and waterways. The ground may be unstable, and there is a risk of landslides and ground collapse.

27 August, 07:00: Manhems overpass reopened to traffic

The Manhems overpass at road 356 is now open to traffic again. Please observe the posted speed limit and drive carefully.

25 August, 18:00: Severe traffic congestion at Hermelinsgatan

The traffic situation at the railway crossing on Hermelinsgatan is severely congested. Traffic in the area has increased significantly since the Mannhemsviadukten bridge was closed due to the high water flows. On several occasions, vehicles have been left standing on the railway tracks as the barriers have come down.

Access at the railway crossing is therefore limited. Traffic may need to be directed when necessary, and the crossing may at times be closed to road traffic for safety reasons. Follow signs and instructions at the site.

Choose another route if possible and be prepared for queues and longer journey times. The situation may change at short notice.

25 August, 17.00 Temporary ban on entering several bodies of water

The County Administrative Board has issued a temporary ban covering the lakes Buddbyträsket, Bodträsket, Svartbyträsket and the rivers Bodån and Ljusån, as well as waterways originating from these waters.

The ban applies from 26 to 31 August inclusive. During this period, you must not enter or go out onto the affected waters.

The ban does not apply to rescue operations, essential public services, residents of Killingholmen or people assisting them.

24 August, 17:00: Orange warning extended further

SMHI External link. has extended the orange warning for flooding in Boden. The warning will remain in effect for several more days and covers the lakes Buddbyträsket, Bodträsket, Svartbyträsket and the Ljusån river.

Warning for strong currents and unstable ground

Stay away from fast-flowing water and flooded areas. Do not swim or go out on the water by boat, canoe, SUP or similar. There may be strong currents below the surface.

Take extra care as the water begins to recede. Roads, paths and ground may have been damaged and could give way without warning. Do not take unnecessary risks.

Respect cordons and road closures. Conditions can change quickly, and the force of the water is often greater than it appears.

23 August, 17:00: Public authority announcement from the Fire and Rescue Service

The Fire and Rescue Service has issued a public authority announcement due to the high water flows. The public is urged to stay away from waterways and flooded areas and to respect all cordons and closures.

23 August, 15:00: More flood defences and barriers in central Boden

Work to protect areas from the high water levels is continuing. Today, we are reinforcing existing flood defences and barriers and building additional ones in central Boden.

Continue to take extra care on the roads!

High water levels are still affecting some roads. Remember that roads may be weakened or damaged even after the water has receded.

23 augusti 13:00: Schools and preschools are still open

At present, no schools or preschools have had to close due to the flooding.

Some roads may have limited access, which could make it more difficult to travel to and from school or preschool. Allow extra time for your journey and keep up to date with the latest information about road conditions.

If the situation changes, we will inform affected parents and guardians as soon as possible.

22 August 18:00: Sandbags available for collection after 20:00 at Ässjan

From 20:00 today, you can collect filled sandbags at 10 Gjutvägen to help protect your property from flooding. Enter through the gates at 3 Smidesvägen and proceed to the sand collection area for property owners.

Boden Municipality will provide the sandbags, but you will need to arrange your own transport from the collection point.

22 August, 14:00: Orange warning extended further

SMHI External link. has extended the orange warning for flooding. The warning is now in effect until Tuesday, 25 August, and covers Lake Buddbyträsket, Lake Bodträsket, Lake Svartbyträsket and the Ljusån river.

21 August, 17:00: Flood barriers to be installed along Östra Strandvägen

Boden Municipality will install flood barriers along parts of Östra Strandvägen. This is a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of damage, as a large number of properties in the area could be affected if water levels continue to rise.

21 August, 14:00: Orange warning extended and expanded

SMHI External link. has extended and expanded the orange warning for flooding. The warning is now in effect from Friday to Sunday, 21–23 August, and covers the lakes Buddbyträsket, Bodträsket, Svartbyträsket and the Ljusån river.

20 August, 12:00: Fire and rescue service requests additional resources

Due to rising water levels, the Fire and Rescue Service has requested additional regional and national resources, including flood barriers, pumps and sandbags, through the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency. This is a precautionary measure to strengthen preparedness.

The Fire and Rescue Service now needs to prioritise its resources where they are needed most, with a focus on essential public services. This means that assistance to individual properties is limited. Property owners therefore need to prepare and, if necessary, take measures to protect their properties from flooding.

19 August 14:00: Orange warning
