Medical responsibility
In the municipality of Boden, there are two special functions responsible for safe healthcare and rehabilitation:
Medical Officer for Patient Safety (MAS)
MAS is a registered nurse responsible for ensuring that patients receive safe and secure healthcare. MAS makes sure that:
- there are routines for contacting doctors or other healthcare staff when needed,
- delegation of healthcare tasks is done safely,
- serious injuries or risks are reported to the responsible committee,
- medication management, documentation and technical safety function correctly.
MAS also works with developing the quality of care, ensuring that laws and regulations are followed, that staff have the right competence, and participates in the planning and development of municipal healthcare.
Medical Officer for Rehabilitation (MAR)
MAR is usually an occupational therapist or physiotherapist. MAR is responsible for ensuring that rehabilitation provided within the municipality is safe and of good quality. The role is regulated by the Health and Medical Services Act and by regulations from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
MAR ensures that rehabilitation is carried out safely, that quality is developed, and that medical devices are used correctly.
Patient safety
Patient safety means that you receive the care you need without risk of injury. The municipality of Boden works with routines and systems that reduce the risk of errors in care.
MAS and MAR are responsible for ensuring that reports are made to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) if a patient suffers, or risks suffering, a serious injury. This is called Lex Maria.
Patient safety report
Every year the municipality produces a patient safety report. It describes how the municipality has worked to ensure safe and good quality healthcare. The report is decided by the social welfare committee.
Patient insurance
If you are injured in connection with municipal healthcare, you may be entitled to compensation through the patient insurance. This covers both physical and psychological injuries.
The insurance applies, for example, in cases of:
- errors in examination, care or treatment,
- incorrect diagnosis,
- injuries caused by medical devices or equipment,
- infections contracted in connection with care,
- accidents in connection with care,
- incorrect handling of medicines.
The insurance covers care in special housing, school health services and home healthcare.
Patient advisory committee
The patient advisory committee can help you as a patient, relative or staff member. Their task is to support, guide and improve healthcare based on patients’ experiences.
The patient advisory committee:
- provides information and guidance,
- facilitates contacts and offers support,
- forwards patients’ views to healthcare,
- can appoint support persons for patients in compulsory care,
- informs about other organisations that can help you.
You can find more information about the patient advisory committee on the Region Norrbotten website.
