Fees and maximum fee

Income and income cap

The fee is based on the household’s total monthly income. The National Agency for Education sets the income cap. The cap for the maximum fee is 59,440 SEK per month and household.

Maximum three children per family

A fee is charged for at most three children who have an after-school care place. The fourth child is free of charge. The highest fee is paid for the youngest child.

Guidelines, payment and changes

Billing across the year

The fee is billed twelve months per year. For new placements and terminations, the date controls billing. During transfers, the fee is billed without interruption.

Maximum fee at start and adjustment

The maximum fee applies when the place starts. When income information has been submitted, the fee is adjusted according to the household’s total income.

Certificates that may be requested

The municipality may request employment and study certificates, income information, and certificates from the unemployment insurance fund, the Swedish Tax Agency, the Social Insurance Agency, and the Public Employment Service.

Duty to report changes

Guardians and partners must report changes to family circumstances, income, and attendance time. If an income inquiry is not submitted, the highest fee is charged. Retroactive adjustments are charged or refunded if information was incorrect. The new fee applies from the date stated in the decision.

On-time payment and unpaid fees

If the fee is not paid on time, a collection charge is added according to the Swedish ordinance from 1981, number 1057, on compensation for debt-collection costs. If payment is missing, the place is terminated with one month’s notice. A new place is not granted if there is an unpaid debt for after-school care fees.

Split bills

If the guardians are separated and both want to use the leisure-time centre (fritidshem), the child must have two placements—one with each guardian. This also means two invoices. Each guardian applies for and terminates their own placement. If one placement is terminated, the full fee transfers to the other guardian once the notice period has ended.

The fee is calculated on the combined income of both households, regardless of whether you are single or cohabiting, with or without children together. A change in income in one household also affects the other household’s fee. The household with the higher monthly income pays a larger percentage. Together you pay at most 2 percent of your combined income, but never more than the fee cap (maxtaxa).

Placement, attendance time and rules

Who can get a place

A place is offered when guardians work at least fifty percent, study at least fifty percent, or are job seeking with the option for hourly work. Billing follows the percentage of income up to the maximum fee.

Fast placement

Contact the placement administrator. With an employment certificate, the child receives a place immediately. The child is entitled to attend on the days the guardian works. Attendance is communicated before arrival, can be given at short notice, and is reported day by day.
