Adult education

For many people, studying as an adult is a chance for a fresh start. You may want to complete your upper secondary education, learn basic Swedish or change careers.

A place to study

Adult Education in Boden provides a learning environment for adults who want to study. We offer municipal adult education, including vocational programmes and Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), as well as examination services for university and college students. Our study and career counsellors, study support staff and special education teacher can support you in different ways throughout your studies.

Our learning centre is located at Sandenskolan in central Boden. However, many of our courses and programmes are also available through distance learning. If you would like to contact one of our counsellors or support staff, you can also meet with us online or contact us by email or phone. Get in touch and we will tell you more.

Our courses and programmes

The waiting time for SFI is currently longer than usual. It may take 4–5 months before you are offered a place.

Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) provides basic education in the Swedish language for people whose first language is not Swedish. SFI has three study paths, and your previous educational background determines which study path is most suitable for you.

Once you have registered your interest in studying SFI, you will be invited to an assessment meeting. After the meeting, you will receive information about when your studies will begin. You may need to wait before a place becomes available. SFI can be studied full-time, in the evenings or through distance learning.

At Komvux, you can take a wide range of courses at upper secondary level. You may need to complete a course to obtain a full upper secondary qualification, or you may need additional courses to become eligible for further studies at a university or other higher education institution.

Validation is for people who have knowledge and experience in a particular subject or field but do not have formal documentation of their skills.

Validation is a structured process for identifying, assessing and documenting your knowledge and skills. We often know more than our formal qualifications show, and we continue to learn throughout our lives. Experience gained through work, leisure activities, education in another country, workplace training or similar activities may be recognised as part of your education.

The process makes it easier to demonstrate your knowledge and experience clearly, giving future employers or education providers a better understanding of your skills.

The validation process

  1. Information about validation – study and career counsellor
  2. Initial assessment – study and career counsellor
  3. Decision on validation – study and career counsellor and vocational teacher
  4. In-depth assessment – vocational teacher
  5. Practical and theoretical assessment – vocational teacher
  6. Supplementary studies/courses – study and career counsellor and vocational teacher
  7. Grade/certificate – vocational teacher
