About the preschool
Gunnarsbyn Preschool is about forty kilometres from Boden and has one mixed-age group. Forests, the river and nearby nature are used daily for learning in all seasons. Both indoor and outdoor environments are important parts of the pedagogy.
Meals and food
Healthy meals are part of the preschool’s work on health and sustainability.
Pedagogy and approach
Teaching is exploratory and built on children’s ideas. Health and sustainability are woven into daily walks, forest obstacle courses and sessions in the sports hall. Children observe seasonal change, use natural materials, learn about local plants and animals, and explore the river’s flow, what floats and what sinks. Language grows every day through rhymes, chants, stories, read-aloud and song.
Safety and cooperation
Children practise cooperation, turn-taking and helping one another in play, gatherings and routines. The small setting and close relationships with familiar adults create security and participation.
