How primary and lower secondary school works
Right to education and compulsory education
All children and young people in Boden have the right to attend school. Compulsory education applies from seven to sixteen years of age. Since autumn 2018 it also applies to six-year-olds in preschool class.

Boden has both municipal and independent schools. You may state which school you want your child to attend.
All primary and lower secondary schools
In Boden Municipality there are many municipal and independent options. In municipal schools, placement is based on catchment areas.

- Hedens skola: Heden, Bredåker, Brännberg, Hamptjärnmoran, Vittjärv, Trångfors, Vändträsk, Mockträsk
- Torpgärdsskolan: Torpgärdan, Södra Svartbyn, Norra Svartbyn, Bodsvedjan, Bodforsen, Skogså, Gemträsk
- Svartbjörnsbynsskola: Svartbjörnsbyn, Buddbyn
- Prästholmsskolan: Prästholmen, central Boden, Sanden, Sveafältet (upper town area), Björkelund
- Fagernäs skola: Fagernäs, Erikslund
- Harads skola: Harads, Sandträsk, Svartlå
- Unbyns skola: Unbyn
- Älvskolan: Gunnarsbyn

Pupils placed at Stureskolan

Pupils from independent schools without a lower secondary stage
Pupils from Mimerskolan in Vittjärv and Tankeborgen in Harads are placed at Stureskolan.
Choosing another school
Application to an independent school
Parents and guardians who prefer an independent school contact the school directly to apply.
Independent schools are approved by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate, receive municipal funding for their operations and charge no tuition fees. For details on focus, teaching methods and places, contact each school.
Application to another municipal school
Applications for a place at another municipal school are made through the municipality’s e-services.
