About the school
Fagernäs School has about 160 pupils from pre-primary class to Year 6. The school is located about 2 km from central Boden and was built in 1953.
In the main building you will find classrooms, group rooms, dining hall, library, craft rooms, home economics and music hall. In a separate building is the school’s sports hall.
The school has three after-school divisions:
- Örtagården (F–1)
- Solgården (Years 2–6)
- Kryddgården, a special teaching group for pupils within the autism spectrum (AST).
The schoolyard includes a football pitch, climbing frame, swings, zipline, labyrinth and large open areas. In winter there is an ice rink, ski tracks and snow hills. The nearby natural environment provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities all year round.
Food and meals
Pupils eat lunch in the school’s dining hall. Meals are homemade and nutritious, providing energy for the entire school day.
Safety and cooperation
We want every pupil to feel safe, a sense of belonging and community. The school’s core values emphasise respect, participation and inclusion. Our work is based on close cooperation between pupils, staff and guardians.
Pedagogy and approach
Fagernäs School’s vision is “We think – We try – We create”, which characterises both teaching and after-school activities.
- Teaching follows Lgr22 and focuses on awakening curiosity, increasing motivation and creating understanding.
- Pupils are active in their learning and learn with and from each other.
- Our approach is built on meaningfulness, comprehensibility and manageability.
- Value-based work is central – all pupils should feel safe and part of the community every day.
- The special teaching group Kryddgården welcomes pupils from the entire municipality and offers individualised teaching, visual support and social support in a safe environment.
Pre-primary class
The pre-primary class is an important bridge between preschool and school. Here, children develop their curiosity and joy of learning in a safe environment.
We focus on practical activities and exploratory working methods, including:
- Exploration: practical activities and inquiry-based learning.
- Language: conversation, reading, storytelling and a language-rich environment.
- Mathematics: playful and hands-on work with numbers, patterns and shapes.
- Nature and environment: outdoor activities integrated in the teaching.
The pre-primary class has around 20 pupils, taught by a pre-primary class teacher.
After-school care
Fagernäs School has three divisions:
- Örtagården: Pre-primary class and Year 1
- Solgården: Years 2–6
- Kryddgården: Special teaching group
The after-school programme provides meaningful leisure time with play, creativity and physical activity. The focus is on safety, social interaction and pupil participation.
