About the school

Hedens skola is beautifully located in Hedens by, about 7 km west of Boden, with around 300 pupils in Years F–6.
The after-school programme is integrated in the school and has two units: Crux and Fenix. The proximity to forest and nature gives strong conditions for outdoor learning.

Safety and cooperation

Democratic values are the foundation of our mission to help form tomorrow’s citizens. A constant theme in teaching is working for a multicultural society.
We work from the principles: See each other – Respect each other – Assume the best of each other.

We build good relationships through clear norms and a belief in the competent child. A variety of methods, tools and materials helps pupils become ready for the future and remember their time at Hedens skola with joy. With an entrepreneurial approach, we challenge pupils to develop creativity, courage, responsibility and collaboration.

Pedagogy and approach

Teaching uses a wide range of approaches, tools and materials to support learning for all. The entrepreneurial stance fosters problem solving, initiative and teamwork in everyday lessons and projects.

Pre-primary class

We aim to spark the desire to learn and build confidence. Through play, creativity and outdoor time, pupils can influence and see their own learning and are smoothly prepared for Year 1.

Pupils work at their own pace without performance demands. The school yard has many environments, and the school forest is right next to the school for play and exploring nature.

A play shed provides equipment during outdoor time. During breaks, pupils also meet friends from other classes. Staff are always on duty, and on some breaks we offer break-time activities led by an after-school teacher.

After-school programme

Our units are Crux (pre-primary, Years 1–2) and Fenix (Years 3–6).

Guiding values

  • Safety – feeling secure at after-school enables joy and belonging.
  • Community – working towards a shared climate that benefits all pupils.
  • Joy – finding joy in trying new activities and meeting new peers.

Staff are committed to offering a meaningful and fun time after school. We often use the sports hall and the school forest.
