About the school

Mårängskolan is located on Sävastön, 9 km south of Boden, with around 410 pupils in F–6. A new, accessible school building with an inviting school yard opened in 2023; the second building is being renovated to a similar standard.

Most year groups are three-parallel, with pupils and teachers collaborating across classes. The four after-school units share the same premises as the school.

Wellbeing and partnership

Desire to learn and joy of succeeding are guiding principles. Safety and wellbeing are the basis for learning. Pupils meet engaged staff and many learning spaces: the school forest, music, sports, the swimming pool, study plazas, the school yard and classrooms. Digital tools are used naturally in all activities.

Pedagogy and approach

Teaching is experience-based and thematic, with pupils active and learning together—using all senses and the whole body.

  • Cooperation across classes and parallel groups.
  • Adventure pedagogy: day and evening adventures in Years 2, 4 and 5.
  • Golf school in Year 3.

Pre-primary class

The pre-primary year builds curiosity and a smooth bridge to Year 1, with varied methods and learning environments in line with Lgr22:

  • Language and communication, mathematical reasoning, nature/technology/society, creative arts, and play, movement and outdoor time.
Typical day: roughly 08:10–13:20 with gathering, lessons, fruit break, lunch and play-based learning. Regular activities include PE (with changing/shower), skating/skiing in season, forest visits and local walks.

After-school programme

Four units located in the school. Breakfast, snacks, breaks and outdoor/free-choice activities.
