About the school

Prästholmsskolan is located a few hundred metres from Brännastrand in central Boden. Outdoors there are grass areas and playgrounds with climbing frames that invite play.

The school is divided into three nearby buildings: the main building, the Prinsen House, and a building for PE, woodwork and the school restaurant. It is a Primary school (F–6) where Primary and Adapted Primary School are integrated.

Food and meals

Meals are served in the school’s own restaurant (separate building).

Safety and cooperation

The vision is to provide safety in everyday life and high knowledge in Swedish, mathematics and English. The guiding words are knowledge, safety, wellbeing and peace of study. To reach the vision we: make use of the school’s diversity and learn from each other, have active adults who lead outdoor sessions, apply clear pedagogical leadership and build good relationships, add movement on the timetable in some classes, offer teacher-led homework/study support, use genre pedagogy in parts of the teaching, run strong student-health work, collaborate collegially and provide continuous CPD.

Follow-up is done via focus groups, pupil interviews and surveys as well as mappings (IST Lärande, national tests, assessment support and the municipal follow-up plan).

Pedagogy and approach

Teaching is characterised by a language-developing approach with genre pedagogy as the method. The school’s multicultural environment is seen as a strength; exhibitions, Open House and concerts show pupils’ work.

Goal for knowledge development: improve goal attainment by 10% each school year in Swedish, English and mathematics.a

Pre-primary class

Pupils are offered varied working methods, forms of expression and learning environments for a smooth transition between preschool, school and after-school unit. Content follows Lgr22 Part 3, including:

  • Language and communication: rhymes/chanting, letters, narrative texts, Hitta språket.
  • Mathematics: simple reasoning; numbers, time, patterns, shape and position.
  • Creation and aesthetic expression: play, images, music, dance and drama; interpreting and discussing messages.
  • Nature/technology/society: norms and rules; democratic values; life questions; building and construction.
  • Play, physical activity and outdoor life: daily activity all year round, safety and environmental consideration.

After-school unit

The after-school unit complements the school and offers a safe, fun and stimulating leisure time with both guided and free activities. Strong emphasis is placed on play, physical activity, social contacts and creativity; much of the programme is outdoors on the large school yard.

Divisions:

  • Prinsen 1 (pre-primary class)
  • Prinsen 2 (Years 1–2)
  • Prinsen 3 (Years 3–6)

Weeks 27–31: all municipal after-school units are merged; summer provision is offered to pupils whose guardians work/study (information is sent during the spring term).
