Natural science

The Natural Science Programme gives you broad eligibility for higher education and in-depth knowledge of science. Here you will train to think analytically, logically, and creatively.

About the programme

The Natural Science Programme is for students who want to understand how the world works in depth. You will study mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry, while practising problem-solving, logical thinking, and scientific methods. It is a higher education preparatory programme and provides the broadest eligibility of all upper secondary programmes.

Specialisation and courses

At Björknäsgymnasiet, you can study the natural science specialisation.
It gives you advanced knowledge in mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry, and prepares you for further studies in natural sciences, technology, and medicine.

Opportunities after the programme

After graduation, you can continue to university or higher education. The programme is especially suitable if you want to become a doctor, engineer, biologist, or researcher. You also gain eligibility for social science studies, giving you many options.

Eligibility and application

To be eligible, you need passing grades in Swedish or Swedish as a Second Language, English, Mathematics, and nine additional subjects. Among these nine, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are required. No Social Science subjects are required. Applications are made through the upper secondary school admission system.

Student life and electives

As a student, you will have access to laboratories and learn through experiments and projects. You can also choose additional courses such as languages, sports, or arts to broaden your education.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the most difficult programme?
It requires a high level of effort, but if you enjoy mathematics and natural science, this is the right programme for you. You will receive support and guidance along the way.

Are there many written laboratory reports?
No, usually one per school year and subject. However, the laboratory work is an important part of the science subjects.

Can I skip mathematics?
No, mathematics is a central part of the programme.
