Construction and civil engineering

Here you will learn the basics of construction and civil engineering. You gain hands-on experience and at least 15 weeks of workplace training, preparing you for direct employment or further studies.

About the programme

The Construction and Civil Engineering Programme is a vocational programme. Here you learn the basics of construction, groundwork and different building techniques. You will practise working both independently and in teams, with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Specialisations and courses

At Björknäsgymnasiet you can choose between two pathways: Building Construction or Construction Machinery.
Both specialisations include at least 15 weeks of workplace training.

All students also study core subjects such as Swedish, English and Mathematics, as well as programme-specific courses in construction and civil engineering.

Workplace training (APL)

During your studies you will complete at least 15 weeks of workplace training. This gives you real work experience and the chance to build contacts in the industry. Workplace training is an important part of the programme and makes it easier to find a job after graduation.

Opportunities after the programme

After graduation, you can work as a carpenter, machine operator or construction worker. You can also continue to vocational college. If you choose the courses that give university eligibility, you can apply to university or higher education.

Eligibility and application

To be eligible for the programme you need passing grades in Swedish (or Swedish as a second language), English, Mathematics and five other subjects from compulsory school. Applications are made via the central admissions system.

Student life and options

As a student on the programme you will work in modern workshops and sometimes on real construction projects. You can also choose electives such as languages, arts or sports profiles.
