Technology – Year 4

The programme is an additional fourth year of the Swedish upper secondary Technology programme. It is designed for students who want to deepen their skills in industrial design and product development, with a strong connection to real industry and technology.

About the programme

The programme is hands-on and combines technology, production, automation and CAD with project work and work placement in close cooperation with local companies.

It provides a strong foundation for jobs in future-oriented industry and technology-based fields, as well as the opportunity to continue your studies.

Courses and content

The programme includes both production-focused courses and compulsory final courses.

Workplace learning (APL)

During the programme, you complete at least 10 weeks of work-based learning (APL), spread over several periods. You will work with real tasks, develop your professional skills and build contacts with employers in the region.

Opportunities after the programme

The programme prepares you for future jobs in green industry and the Swedish armed forces, where the demand for technical skills is growing.

After graduation, you can work as a gymnasieingenjör within industry and production, or choose to continue your studies.

The programme is delivered in close cooperation with local companies.

Eligibility and application

The programme is for students who:

  • have completed the Technology programme or an equivalent education
  • apply no later than the calendar year they turn 22
  • have passed at least 2,250 credits

You can apply from all specialisations within the Technology programme. If you have not studied industrial design and product development, an individual assessment will be made.

Student life and electives

Teaching is project-based and follows the CDIO model (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate).

You often work in teams, have your own workspace, and train in ways that reflect real work in industry and technical professions.

Who can apply?
The programme is open to students who have completed the Technology programme or an equivalent education and meet the entry requirements.

Is the programme financially supported?
Up to the spring term of the year you turn 20, you may receive a student grant. After that, you can apply for student finance through CSN.

Is the programme practical?
Yes. The programme is project-based, includes work-based learning (APL) and has a strong connection to working life.
