Attendance and absence
Attendance is important for your studies
Regular attendance gives you better opportunities to successfully complete your education. During lessons, your teachers support you and help you develop the knowledge and skills you need for further studies or working life.
It can be difficult to combine full-time studies with extensive part-time work or other activities. As a parent or guardian, you have an important role in helping your child create good conditions for their studies.
Report your absence if you are ill
Illness and approved leave are valid reasons for absence. If you are ill, your absence must be reported from the first day and then for each full day that you are ill.
If you are under 18, your parent or guardian reports your absence in Haldor. If you are 18 or older, you report your own absence. You can also report an absence by calling +46 921 625 09 between 07:00 and 08:30. Please provide your name, personal identity number, class and the reason for your absence.
As a student, you should also:
- inform your mentor about your absence via Teams
- contact your mentor if you become ill and need to go home during the school day
- stay in touch with your teachers via Teams if you feel well enough to study while you are ill.
Absence can affect your student grant
While attending upper secondary school, you receive a student grant from CSN, the Swedish Board of Student Finance. The school monitors absence and is required to report absence to CSN.
CSN may investigate whether you still qualify as a full-time student. If your attendance is too low, your student grant may be withdrawn or you may have to repay money you have already received. It may also affect other benefits received by your family.
Leave during the school year
Apply for leave
The school year consists of 178 school days. For this reason, the school does not grant leave for holidays, driving practice or leisure activities.
Leave may, however, be granted for certain personal circumstances where you cannot choose the date yourself, such as:
- a funeral
- a driving test
- the mandatory skid training course for a Swedish driving licence.
Talk to your mentor and teachers well in advance before applying for leave. Then complete the leave application form and give it to your mentor.
If your leave is approved, you and your teachers will agree on how you can catch up on the work you miss.
If your leave is approved, you and your teachers will agree on how you can catch up on the work you miss.
Time off in lieu
Sometimes your education includes activities outside your regular timetable. Whether you receive time off in lieu for these additional hours depends on the type of activity.
If an activity is directly linked to a subject, such as a study visit, your teacher may in some cases count those hours towards the subject and replace other lessons in the same subject.
Other activities may be part of your education as a whole without giving you time off in lieu. This applies, for example, to additional activities with Erasmus guests.
After the school's evening open house, students are given the following afternoon off, regardless of their individual timetable.
Laptop and digital services
Student laptop
All students can borrow a personal laptop during their time at Björknäsgymnasiet. Before the laptop can be issued, your parent or guardian needs to sign the laptop agreement External link. via the municipality's e-service.
The laptop is for schoolwork and you should bring it to all lessons. As a student, you are responsible for making sure that your laptop is charged and working, with enough storage space and the software you need for your schoolwork.
If the laptop or its accessories are damaged, you may be required to pay compensation. Deliberate damage will be reported to the police.
Haldor
Haldor is the digital service that you and your parent or guardian will use most often. It includes:
- plans and assignments
- assessments and feedback
- parent-teacher conferences
- additional learning support
- timetables
- attendance and absence
- messages.
Parents and guardians log in to Haldor using BankID. If you do not have BankID, please contact the school.
We recommend allowing notifications from Haldor on your phone so that you do not miss important information.
SchoolSoft
In SchoolSoft, parents and guardians can see the student's grades in different subjects and levels as they are completed. You log in using BankID.
Support with your studies
If we need to talk to you and your parent or guardian about issues such as absence, wellbeing or academic progress, we may invite you to a planning meeting (PLK).
At the meeting, you will meet members of the school's student health team. This may include the principal, your mentor, a study and career counsellor, school counsellor, school nurse or special education teacher.
The purpose of the meeting is to get a better understanding of your situation together and agree on what can help you move forward with your studies.
Travel to and from school
Björknäsgymnasiet does not manage travel passes. Questions about travel passes and school travel are handled by the municipality's school transport team.
