Apply for after-school care

Here you can find everything you need to know about applying for a place in after-school care – who is eligible, how the application process works, important dates, and what happens after you have submitted your application.

Updated:

Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

1. Who can apply?

You can apply for a place in after-school care if you work or study at least 50 percent. Children of parents on parental leave or who are unemployed are not entitled to a place.

2. How to apply

2.1 By e-service

Log in with electronic identification through Boden Municipality’s website and use the service for preschool and after-school care applications. Fill in details about the child, needs, desired after-school centre, and schedule.

2.2 By form

If you do not have electronic identification, you can collect a paper form at the Citizen Service Office in the Town Hall. Fill it in and submit it manually. Mark that you do not have electronic ID to receive information by post.

3. What happens after you apply?

Once the application has been submitted, it will be processed within about two weeks. You will receive an offer through the IST portal or by notification. The offer must be answered within 9 days. Failure to reply or a rejection means that the application is closed and a new application is required.

4. Schedule and documentation

Once a place has been granted, you must submit a schedule of the child’s attendance at least two weeks before it comes into effect. The principal may also request an employer’s certificate or other documentation confirming the need. Certificates must be submitted within 14 days if requested.

5. Fees

The fee is calculated according to the maximum fee system and is based on the household’s gross income. You must submit income details no later than at the start of the placement, otherwise the maximum fee will be charged. The fee applies 12 months per year. If fees are not paid, the place may be terminated and the case referred to debt collection.

6. Introduction and summer holiday care

Children starting preschool class may begin introduction to after-school care from week 32 at the earliest. The preschool place ends automatically in week 31. Summer holiday care requires a separate application during the spring term, usually in April–May, and is only available if you work or study during the summer.

7. Next steps – checklist

  1. Make sure you work or study at least 50 percent.
  2. Choose e-service or collect a paper form.
  3. Fill in the child’s details, preferences, schedule, and certificates.
  4. Submit the application.
