Step-by-step guide
Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.
1. What is home care?
Home care is support and assistance in your home, helping you live there as long as possible with safety and independence. It may include service tasks such as cleaning, laundry, shopping, and meal deliveries, or care services such as help with hygiene, mobility, and meals.
2. Contact the Assistance Unit
You begin your application by contacting the Biståndsenheten. You can call, email, or use the municipality’s e-service (requires electronic identification). In your application, you provide your contact details, the type of support you need, and other relevant information. You can also book a personal meeting.
3. Needs assessment
After you contact the Biståndsenheten, you will be invited to a meeting with a case officer. The meeting can take place in your home or another location of your choice. You are welcome to bring a family member.
At the meeting, you discuss what you find difficult in daily life, your goals, and the type of support you need. The case officer uses a method called IBIC, where different areas of life are reviewed. The conversation is documented, and you have the right to access the documentation.
The assessment forms the basis for a decision according to the Social Services Act. The processing time is usually up to three weeks after all documentation has been submitted.
4. Decision and choice of provider
Once a decision has been made, you may choose between municipal or private home care providers. After you have made your choice, the home care service will contact you to plan how the support will be provided. This is written down in an implementation plan.
5. Implementation and follow-up
You will start receiving support according to the plan. Follow-ups are carried out regularly to ensure that you receive the right support and that your needs are still accurate. You can contact your case officer at any time if your needs change.
6. If your application is denied
If you are not granted the support you applied for, you have the right to appeal. The decision will include instructions on how to do this, and the case officer can support you through the process.
7. Contact with home care staff
When the support begins, you will receive contact details for your local home care team. Boden is divided into several geographic areas, each with a responsible unit manager.
7.1 Other forms of support
As a family member, you can receive support through the municipality’s caregiver support services. There is also the option of respite or short-term care if you as a relative need rest or recovery.
