Apply for upper secondary school travel support

Do you attend upper secondary school and are you registered in Boden Municipality? You may be eligible for support for your travel between home and school.

Updated:

Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

The information on this page is a summary. Full details are available in the municipality’s guidelines for student travel support. Please read them before applying.

1. Who can receive student travel support?

You may be eligible for support if:

  • you are registered in Boden Municipality
  • you are eligible for student financial aid (CSN)
  • you study full-time
  • the distance between your home address and your school is more than 6 kilometres
  • you are under 20 years of age (the right applies until the end of the spring term of the year you turn 20)

All conditions must be met.

To be considered eligible, you must meet CSN’s requirements for student financial aid. Contact CSN if you are unsure about your eligibility.

2. Type of support

Student travel support can be provided in two ways:

2.1 Travel card (most common)

You receive a travel card for public transport.

2.2 Financial compensation

Compensation may be granted if:

  • there is no bus service, or
  • medical reasons are confirmed with a doctor’s certificate

You cannot receive both a travel card and financial compensation. The municipality decides which form of support is provided.

Student travel support for upper secondary students is not the same as school transport for compulsory school students.

The municipality provides financial support for travel but does not arrange the transport. The support does not always cover the full cost.

3. How to apply

You must apply for each new school year.

Applications can be submitted from April.
To guarantee processing before the start of the autumn term, your application must be submitted by 30 April.

You apply in the municipality where you are registered.

If you do not yet know which school you will attend, you should still apply. You can provide the school name later.

3.1 Before you apply

The guidelines for student travel support contain all applicable rules. Decisions are based on these guidelines.

We recommend that you read the full document before applying. By submitting your application, you confirm that you have read the guidelines.

3.2 Apply via e-service

3.3 Apply using a form

If you cannot use the e-service with BankID, you can apply using a form.

Send the form:

  • by email (scanned) to: skolskjuts@boden.se
  • by post to: Boden Municipality, SE-961 86 Boden. Mark the envelope: “Elevresor”.

4. Processing and decision

Processing usually takes 2–3 weeks during the school year. Before the autumn term, it may take longer. Applications are processed in the order they are received.

Please note:

  • Travel during the processing period is not reimbursed.
  • Guardians or the student (if over 18) are responsible for travel until a decision has been made.
  • If a travel card is granted, additional processing time from Länstrafiken applies (usually about 10 working days).

4.1 If you receive a travel card

Support is provided as a travel card unless otherwise requested.

Boden Municipality provides one travel card per student. The card should be kept and used between school years. If you already have a card, continue using it.

The card is sent to your registered home address unless otherwise specified.

  • A replacement card costs SEK 150.
  • Ordering instructions are provided by the municipality.
  • Processing and delivery times apply.

Contact Länstrafiken customer service if the card does not work.

4.2 If you receive financial compensation

Compensation is paid twice per term, in arrears.

Compensation is not paid retroactively if no decision has been made.

The monthly amount must not exceed 1/30 of the annual price base amount.
