1. WHAT IS AN ENERGY PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATE (EPC)?
A document that shows a building’s energy use, energy rating, and suggested measures to reduce energy costs and improve the indoor environment. It is issued by a certified energy expert and is valid for ten years.
2. WHICH BUILDINGS ARE COVERED?
Single-family houses, condominiums, or other buildings must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) when being sold, rented, or newly constructed. Public buildings and properties over 250 m² are also included.
2.1 How the process works
- Find a certified energy expert through the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s (Boverket) e-service.
- The energy expert inspects the building and provides suggestions for effective energy-saving measures.
- The certificate is registered in Boverket’s system.
3. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) increases transparency in energy and environmental performance, can save money or increase the value of your home, and is required by law when selling or renting.
4. RETRIEVE AN EXISTING CERTIFICATE
You or someone else (with authorization) can search for and order the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) through the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s (Boverket) e-service for energy performance certificates.
