Updated:

Please note that all forms, digital applications (e-services) and some linked websites are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

What is an easily remedied barrier?

An easily remedied barrier is something that makes it difficult for people with disabilities to access or use a place. The barrier should be possible to remove without major costs or technical difficulties.

Examples of barriers

  • Steps at entrances without ramps
  • Heavy doors or doors without automatic openers
  • Lack of contrast markings on glass doors or walls
  • Missing or unclear signage and information
  • Obstacles in walkways, such as furniture or raised thresholds
  • Poor lighting that makes orientation difficult

Where do the rules apply?

The rules apply in premises open to the public, such as shops, restaurants, health centers, and libraries. They also apply in public spaces such as squares, sidewalks, parks, and bus stops.

Who is responsible for removing barriers?

The property owner or the operator of the premises is responsible for removing barriers. In public spaces, the municipality is responsible.
